If I get it right from the short description. You will build portal and then choose destination. So if you’re an explorer you will need to build lots of portals at one place, to be able to travel different worlds?
This could put a lot of stress on the servers, I think.

Wouldn’t it be easier to create a “transfer” world, where you get from your portal. There could be paths to portals to other worlds.

Also, there is potencial to create lost/secret/guarded paths to worlds or locations with rewards or just a beautiful little spots to relax in…

      Hope it’s not confusing 😀

Do you mean by Transfer-World sort of a portal hub?

I think being able to place portals freely at any given place in the landscape offers the player more creative potential. A portal hub is pragmatic, but if you are right with performance issues of serverrs, then this could be a solution.

Nevertheless creating the illusion of a fluent transition from one world to the other is a thing the creators of Oort were mentioning, if I got that right. And actually this sounds a very challenging aspect to me. “Immersion” is the buzzword. I believe it would be a very charming aspect for the player to be able to freely place portals and “just walk through”. It’s something new to me, almost.

      : )

You could place portal where you want, but it will take you to the Hub 🙂

But you are right it’s more charming to walk through worlds freely 🙂

Ok, in Minecraft it’s like this: One owns a world/realm and invites other players to this world by list. It is very comfy and to me it appeals a little more private and uncomplicated, in a way. I really liked that.

Oort will be a visual stunner most propably. And I hope the game mechanics will be intuitve. Minecraft may seem crude, but I like it’s crunchy style.
Minecraft may be a tough cookie, But Oort also could be a real cracker.

I agree with you. But I’m thinking more about the technical side.

For example, I’ll be an explorer, so I would want to visit as many worlds as possible. I’ll set up my base and then I’ll need portal for every world. So I will build little hub of my own near my home. Let’s say seven portals. But surely I’m not the only explorer in the world, there could be many others creating their own hubs. 100 people -> 700 portals…You see where I’m going?

Second thing on my mind is exit. Where will the exit of my portal be placed?
Would it be random or same coordinates as my world? That could end up bad. It could end in the mountain or under water…heh…would be cool if the water started pouring through the portal…just crazy idea 😀

These are just things that poped up in my mind concerning this topic. Maybe it’s unnecessary fear caused by lack of information and insight 🙂
