Hey there!
I discovered this game today, and spent the day reading the forum and watching videos. I’m usually a forum lurker, but Oort look that promising i decided to create an account, and fill up the suggestion tab a bit.
// Long post ahead. summary : my subjective point of view (can’t stress it enough on the Internet nowadays)
// Posted this in General Discussion, as it discuss about the game as a whole.
// This thread may go in 2 directions : a “Everyone post the direction where you want to push Oort” OR “Dissect Eph’s point of view, say what types of players you consider yourself and what do you like and dislike there
// Most of all, i hope we’ll keep this a sane debate/discussion =)I’m speaking of suggestions, but you could also call them “Eph’s point of view, loaded with ideas”. I don’t usually suggest about a precise feature, but i think about the “part” as a whole ecosystem who needs to be coherent with every other little bricks composing the suggestion (little bricks following my point of view).
The different suggestions, even if split in different threads, will rejoin as my own vision of a “perfect” voxel game, the vision i hope Oort will follow.
I’m forcing myself on Oort, even though i discovered it 6 hours ago ? Maybe, but hey, they’re suggestions, and here’s for that. Although, if you want to hit the “Exigent, sandbox heavy PvE – exploration/trade/compulsive-collector oriented – challenge thriving and twitch/dynamic // combat/movement gameplay – playerbase”, you know what to do. (Keywords to better determine type of player)What’s interest me the most in Oort is it’s potential to create a fun exploration (I have yet to play a game who fully impress me with exploration (i played to minecraft and TES: Oblivion/Skyrim modded, but they both lacked some things, notably good “rewards”)). My first suggestion will be about Portals, Worlds, and Exploration, and their mixing for a fun and rewarding exploration, while being in a MMO.
*** Link to the thread once complete (i hope there’s no timer on the “edit post” function) ***Now, i’d like to speak a bit about gameplay. I don’t feel they require a suggestion right now (kinda far on the roadmap). I clearly prefer dynamic and manual aiming gameplay versus a static/lock-fire-tab-to-change-target type of gameplay.
I’ve seen on a german let’s play than the aiming is dynamic, that’s great !
For me, next step would be in Combat II milestone and include dash/roll to add some more twitch to combats. A bit dreamy, but Combat III would include walljumps and the like. (By combat III, i mean somewhere 2016, way after the scheduled release late 2015, and when you’ll reap success and get a team of 100+ devs, eheh)
I included them in “Combat” and not in a new package like “Movement” because they’d have to be perfectly balanced with PvE (and, after, PvP).
I may do a suggestion (for future reference, as it’s also far away in time) in some days – about sandbox/open PvP with Guilds having possibilities of declaring war and breaking Guild’s beacons.I will probably post a suggestion tomorrow, about Economy. It’ll contain some “branches” i may initiate in the Exploration suggestion, notably concerning stuff/deposit of X rare resources. Right now it seems i can’t find the right words. More tomorrow =)
Keep in mind that throughout this post, i don’t forget builders and more peaceful gameplay. I always try to find a good way to implement a feature i like without hindering gameplays i don’t personally play.
Well, gonna stop this post now, and continue it later. I’ll switch onto Exploration suggestion now.
Thanks for reading!
