This might not really be the exact thread, but will there be the possibility to bounce of walls while jumping? It is a typical Jump’n Run element. I have seen a third person perspective is optional. Also the Guardians remind me of Shadow of the Colossus (I anticipate it this way). I’m not too sure how deep to go into interpreting the title picture of Oort; its main target group will be kids, I guess. Maybe. Also not too sure about this. If the gameplay will be intuitive (press jump while directing a wall, then while hitting the wall press jump again), and the world is bustling with players (I have seen 2 Qubes jumping up a stairway one by one, which i found VERY inspiring or imaginative) then it could hold me captivated.
Don’t know if I’m over enthused…I have no experience in creating and building a game. And I also don’t know if my consumer side is too much of a whip towards the developers of Oort. Bouncing of walls would be great though. Especially with detailed(?) phantasy creatures.

The colossals should be visible at night like schemes or shadows but maybe their eyes are glowing.

I’d love to see creatures which glow at night. Fireflies for example.
But also maybe frog kind of creatures, which have a tentacle at their head with a glowing end. They could attract nightswarmers which get snapped by the frog creatures’ tounges.

Or the cube which gets removed, sinks in like a sandhole. In a cylinder shape. This way, outlining voxels would not need to be visible instantly.

Ok, I can think of 3dimensional textures. Maybe. In a way that the block seems to be crumbling in. I’m not too sure about performance issues in this case.

Another way could be to render a crumbling block in 3d:

Like in the second alternative I described – just instead of sinking in the plain the player is directing to, little smaller cubes get removed. A predefined
crumbling-animation. It does not even need to be smooth – The miniblocks just pop away. It could be a quite neat visual experience.
This would cause the need for the graphic engine to pre-render 4 plains, which outline the shrinking/demolished cube.

Ok, in Minecraft it’s like this: One owns a world/realm and invites other players to this world by list. It is very comfy and to me it appeals a little more private and uncomplicated, in a way. I really liked that.

Oort will be a visual stunner most propably. And I hope the game mechanics will be intuitve. Minecraft may seem crude, but I like it’s crunchy style.
Minecraft may be a tough cookie, But Oort also could be a real cracker.

Do you mean by Transfer-World sort of a portal hub?

I think being able to place portals freely at any given place in the landscape offers the player more creative potential. A portal hub is pragmatic, but if you are right with performance issues of serverrs, then this could be a solution.

Nevertheless creating the illusion of a fluent transition from one world to the other is a thing the creators of Oort were mentioning, if I got that right. And actually this sounds a very challenging aspect to me. “Immersion” is the buzzword. I believe it would be a very charming aspect for the player to be able to freely place portals and “just walk through”. It’s something new to me, almost.

    : )

Yes, why not! Or one could drop items into a stream of water and let the stream do the job of transport.
