      i’d love to see the crafting system as something specified so not everybody can do everything but people need to work and talk together, so personally i think it would be awesome if leveling crafting was hard and rewarding, while being very specified, that way people may decide to make small cities with player vendors,
      so 1 craft for each person ideas for it would be,

      Loremaster: i just recently found this in divinity and i love the idea, making a craft that makes you able to identify found items in the world, that way if people find something good they have to find an identifier and that way some people may work as high level identifiers taking money for it

      Bowyer, Gunsmith: Making bows and arrows/guns if you are going to add it ingame

      Heavy Weaponsmith: Making you able to make 2 hand weapons like greathammers and scythes and stuff

      Light Weaponsmith: Being able to make 1 hand axes and swords and things like that

      Blacksmith, Leatherworker and Tailor: If you have diferent types of armor then one from each type and being able to repair the gear of their type with a few mats. maybe you can still have npc repairmen but then that would be extremely expensive and not as effective.

      Staff Crafting: Able to make staffs and whatever mage weapons you add

      Shield Crafting: If you add it to the game

      Scribe: A person that can write and make books and scrolls, the higher the level the longer the books

      Tamer: instead of letting everybody be able to tame the beasts of the game, get specified tamers that can go into the wilds and through great effort tame pets for people to buy and use, and if not then maybe they will be able to tame higher tier pets or predators that cant be tamed by normal people either for self use or selling.

      Jewelcrating: Being able to make trinkets, Amulets, Necklaces, rings and so on.

      Alchemist: being able to make potions and craft dyes.

      Miner, Woodworker and Herbalist: so everybody would be able to gather the mats as raw ingredients used for building but these would be the people able to refine the ingredients into mats that can be used for crafting needed by other people.

      i see you have alot of strange looking and special looking masks and the like and another hard thing that could be cool is to be able to customize look or weapons and armor when making it, even in little details so not everybody looks the same.

      And alot more. People need to work for it and most people just leave crafting in games because if everybody can do everything then there is really nothing to it. So i’d recommend blueprints for every item so not everybody can do the same, the hardcore crafters can buy them from people that may explore and look for them, A tier system of materials and weapons so people need new types, limitations like your standard mmo where you may need to be 50 out of 400 in the crafting skill to be able to make an oak staff or something like that and then randomized stats when making weapons and armor for the need to make multiple items to make the best gear.

      I really belive in this game and i know it may be hard to do this but the things needed in games the most is player interaction where people need to trade stuff, a proper economy where you cant just sell everything to vendors, and you guys have it really hard being called a minecraft clone so you have to prove yourself worthy to the world, i know you can 😀

      And maybe something like a carpenter and architect to make visual items like banners and furniture.

      I love this idea, but i think it is important that everybody can do the simplest parts of all this so if you can’t find anybody to play with you can at least get started 🙂

      It think it would work best if you had fx. 1 skill you could get in full level 3 skills in a medium level and you could progress just a little bit in all the others, if you haven’t past the maximum for fx, the medium level with the skill you choose as high level you can always change that to medium and another to high level but when it passes that line it becomes locked.

      You shouldnt be able to do everything, i see your point, but if you can do everything then you dont have to make a choice, if its that easy there wouldnt be any choice, like ”oh i can level them all so nevermind if i can only have a few high” but if you can only have 1 you will be specialised and known on the server like, ”oh you need a thing identified, give that dude a whisper”

      That was not what i meant. more like everybody can make the simplest spells and tools and food and so on but you choose 1 thing you will be a master in fx. smithing. and 3 things you are good at like cooking, here you can’t make gourmet but you can make some quite good food still 🙂

      This way you need to work together with other people to get all the best things BUT you can survive solo.

      Its a way to make money and to interact with other, if you can only level mining then people have to buy from you even in low tiers, but if everybody can do low level then people can just go mine and that way there wont be work for a dedicated miner until high up in the levels, which would honestly make me feel useless if i had used alot of timing of leveling mining

      but yeah. ya must be able to survive, i’m sorry i know its stupid but i just have high hopes for this game and i would love a game that requires you to interact with everything, i think its fair if everybody could make something simple but i really really want a game where you are dependant on eachother, i just hope they make alot of crafting and making players be able to actually feel like they are worth something as crafters rather than having it to be a mandatory thing to survive 😀

      ohh and just thought of something, some people dont want anything with crafting they just want to build their house and go slaughter stuff, so to not make them feel like they have to do mandatory crafting to get gold for items, you could put some of the better or more rare materials in dungeons and places with higher level or group mobs, that way a crafter can co-op with another crafter to get mats OR if he dont want to fight about them he can hire a player to function as a mercenary, that way people who hates crafting will still be able to make money

      Something starts take form here.
      Also i don’t think anyone will start to feel useless if they just start focusing on their task crafters fx. don’t have much time to mine if they are busy doing other stuff and when they have time the miners gives a higher payout 🙂

      Yeah. i really hope you can only do 1 thing properly though, so like everybody may mine the first, but that later is online high tier miners that can mine it, that way if you want a certain type of ore that you now where are you can hire a miner to go around and gather it for you, it would be a pain i know, but i think it would be extremely cool if there were gathering focusing proffesions rather than eso where everybody can gather everything

      I don’t know about that. Building is fundamental part that a lot of people will partake in and limiting what they can build/craft doesn’t sound like a good idea if the person plays solo or doesn’t play with others. Cause crafting should only be simple for basic stuff and the advanced recipes should be some work and that way if your looking. For an ingredient you can look at what other players are selling in the stores they put up.

      In FFXIV everybody can do everything it just takes time but gathering mats is not what people like doing.

        that highly depends on the person, i told my friend about the idea and he said he would just build a cot at a lake and then live completely from fishing, and this is not a singleplayer game, as far as i can see they are going for complete player driven economy and if everybody need something to do it need to be specified.

      you are pretty much just saying what we got to while denying it?
      you can still build everything except the decorations, and crafting shouldnt be necessesary in any way atleast from my point of view, i dont want it to be mandatory cause thats just extremely boring

      Some people don’t like working with others. But if you want to be able to me everything you should be able to. It just requires that person to work harder and explore on his own. Its a RPG it would help those decide what they like to focus on while crafting or gathering. Dont need over inflaited prices just because you can’t do it yourself and limited to what you can craft yourself

      And yeah i get your points mate, but the reason i feel like this is because if you can just do everything yourself without a proper crafting system, without actually having to talk to eachother and build bonds with people, then this is just gonna be ”a minecraft clone” in most peoples eyes, and if there should be no npc’s at all in the game how do you think you are going to get by without talking with others?

      No npcs mean a richer driven player community. Players can give each others tasks and their own quests. /hey can you help keep monsters off me while I’m building the wall for the town?

      Things like that. There are people who play mmos who Peter’s doing things solo. But doing things solo shouldn’t be a hindrance just takes longer to craft and build things since your alone since you gotta gather all the materials yourself and whatnot.

      you need to look away from crafting being mandatory, its not sure thats the case, its more a quality of life feature. and what would the point being of even having a crafting system if anybody can just make everything?

      Well you can look at real life, everybody can do everything if they put their mind to it, it takes time. Plus one of the developers said that there are recipes that you have to find that drop off of certain creatures and the like so technically everybody can start off with being able to build everything you just need to find the recipes and stuff to be able to do it.

      in the end its a worthless discussion though, i say what i think would be able to keep people interested in the game from the crafting side while you think would be the easiest for loners, we wont get anywhere, i just dont want this game to be doomed before its even started

      You are missing the point. Anybody can be anything when they put their mind to it. I’m not trying to be toxic. But role playing elements some people go do something like fishing cause they enjoy it more than the other stuff but can do it if they need to be.

      Minecraft allowed people to craft everything. Final Fantasy XI and XIV did that too and they are really popular. Even with all the options, people chose what they enjoyed from the game.

      There are people that enjoy the achievement from doing things on their own and people do it in real life too.

      Grimoire has a quite good point. A way to catch a bit of both ideas would be to make a very slow progression skill wise but making it possible to do them all if you want to.

      This way it is easier to work together with other people, but it is possible to go solo 🙂

      Ya that’s what I mean. But we don’t know exactly what the Oort developers are gonna do. Either way I’m sure it’ll be great when we give them feedback if its needing any tweaking.

      yeah apologies too, i really like the idea but crafting is make it or break it in this game, and i would prob drop it if its only something as simple as boring as minecraft, cause this isnt bloody minecraft, this is its own game

      Don’t know if they would have a creative mode in Oort. Like in mindcraft. It could have some things similar to Mac like its kinda fun to put blocks together in a crafting station and whatnot.

      ButBut highly doubt they’d allow players to fly around placing anything and everything unless they give server owners special permission.

      Perhaps it’s been said already, I don’t know. I’ve read most of what’s written here and I don’t think I saw it already, but I kinda like the idea of having the ability to build on skills. You start with an open pallet where you can do anything you desire. But it’ll be the basic of that skill. As you use it more, you’ll improve upon it until you’ve reached a certain point where it’s at a point that you’ve almost perfected it (or as it good as it gets anyway)

      A practical example has already been given I think; Cooking.
      At first you’re just able to cook what you find. You build a simple campfire like how I described it over here: http://oortonline.com/forums/topic/viewers-have-spoken/

      Then, once you can heat your food, you can get to the next level. And so forth. This goes on, all the way to the point where you can say, for example, make desserts or whatnot.

      TLDR; everyone can make anything, as long as you have the experience that you can build up through some sort of achievement-system.

      EDIT: Of course you won’t get far when you’ll master one skill from the start, but if that’s what you wanna do, you’ll need other players to trade with. Same goes the other way around, when you very gradually gain XP in every task simultaneously, you won’t be able to make those desserts I mentioned earlier.

      It was already mentioned but in my opinion the best solution would be that an average player, who plays like 1-2 hours a day (not sure if this is realistic^^), could master maybe 1 or 2 skills in a year (again maybe a little bit unrealistic) if he concentrates on this skills. But if you want to invest the time you’d have the possibility to master all the skills.
      This way all the solo players could do whatever the want. They’d just have to work a lot harder. And groups of players, maybe in a town, could specialize on one or two skills and make money off of it.
      I myself am a solo player but for some things I’d really like to just go to a person who can make them easily so I don’t have to make them with a huge effort.
      An example would be: Why would I max my cooking skill, even if I could, just to make food which gives me a buff I need for a Quest? or a Bossfight? I’d rather give a Cook some gold and go straight to the Boss.
      But the lowest tier of everything should be available for everyone. I mean even I could make a primitive table although I’m not a carpenter. But for the better looking things you either have to train yourself or go to a professional. One costs time the other one gold.
      But you have the choice and that’s the most important thing. I’ve searched long and played a lot of MMO’s but I only found one or two which came close to this vision and I really hope that Oort can fill this niche because I can not believe I am the only one who searches for something like that.

      My vote is for a skill tree. It gives a better overview of the whole personal journey.

      I like the idea of having open skills anyone can do everything and a training system that you have to fulfill requirements to up that skill if there are many skills then have them get exp or requirements to gather like a mining skill and production skill. I’ve played games with an open skill system and its still hard as hell to master them all and some players don’t even want to bother with some skills and the market for jobs is fine. Other games that I’ve played that kind of have a training system only make you train like 50% then use SP to up the skill and even that takes days and months. One game which kind of does this is mabi and I played that for 5 years and had a friend that did for 12 and neither of us mastered all the skills and you could rebirth in that game and get like 100 SP a week easily. To be honest if we have good system I’m hoping for training one without SP just get the requirements to 100% it sound fun with lots of skill mastering them all won’t be an issue when it takes so much time training and getting mats.

      Having it limited honestly doesn’t sound that good for a few reasons.

      1.what if you can’t find anyone at the skill level that you want your item to be or say you find someone and they are super rude. then you have to deal with that or possible settle for less.

      2.You could just work that skill but now you’re locked in it and you don’t even like that profession you just want an item made from it maybe even just one.

      3.And yea you could wait till someone else is that level in that skill however then you got a spike in that skill and the others are bran because people or switching to be part of the money wave or there locked in and un happy and the games unbalanced waiting for new player that don’t follow everyone else hoping for money. Also with the ability to switch and only have one skill and be locked in it then the more skills you have to more its going to have no one able to be on to help you get what you want.

      4.The only people that would be masters if people could switch would be people that like doing that skill just because they enjoy it, but then they have the issue of getting whisper spammed the hell out of which is going to suck and ruin the game for them. making them quit or be mean to other player.

      As for the marketing side even at low tiers even on mining get materials sell them to NPC’s or real player trader and they could buy it and sell those mats to higher levels that don’t want to spend days getting them so they can just focus on crafting. There’s still a market for those items even if you can do multiple skills. and for people that want to build something big and amazing and just need like basic stone you don’t need high level mining to pull that off and you still got buyers.

      also I think some type of leaking system and what I mean is say you making a 2 handed war hammer and that hammer has a wooden handle well you woodworking is godly so have a leak of boosted durability on it and your fire mastery and blunt mastery are not bad either so you get fire dmg and extra physical dmg added. This will add for players that making their characters items special in there own way and you would be able to hunt down what ever item you want based on what you like. Another thing which would be cool is like if you had the crafters name on the bottom of the item info as well as maybe under that a paragraph of what leaked that way the crafter would get credit.

      leaks:

      woodworking: +3 durability

      Blunt mastery: +13 dmg

      ice mastery: +25 ice dmg and 20% chance to freeze enemy

      Another thing is I like the idea of if maybe there was a main Cap however you could still improve mastery after that like for mining you could have requirements were you have to mine 1000s of blocks and rare blocks to get like a 5% boost in mining speed something to help with getting mats while for the crafters they get boosts in whatever they are doing for the kill like more dmg or higher armor rating that way if they are dedicated to that skill even after the main cap they can still work on mastering that profession or working on other skills to make these items special/stand out and all that.

      I really like the ideas here.

      First of all i would like to suggest what the certain professions/specializations should be as it was in the first post.

      These ideas have gone through my head recently:
      I wont type what these profession should offer, everyone can imagine it.

      Farmer
      Fisher
      Cook

      The ideas Zouls said and i agree with:

      Loremaster
      Jewelcrafter
      Scribe

      I think there should be only Armorsmith and Weaponsmith profession.
      These profession could be then divided into branches like crafts from:

      Leather, Cloth, Mail, Plate for Armorsmith
      One-hand, Two-hand, Shields, Magical, Ranged for Weaponsmith

      And finaly the last ones which all the players should have:

      Miner, Herbalist, Woodworker (but only one can be totaly mastered)

      Then it makes total of 12 professions. It think it should be enough.
      And it covers all the possibilities.
      If you have suggestions, post them. 😉

      And little post to the recent conversation – my opinion.

      Everyone should be able to solo the game but to some extent.
      It is called MMO for some reason and if it offers to build CITIES and GUILDS, there should be limit where you cant go without cooperation with other people. Boldly said you dont need in a city ten Chefs, but only one or two who are really good.

      Maybe more of a skill web. Where there is the starting skill set in the middle and over time you gain more skills and you need to get two more skills after the initial to get another skill.
