Hi abculatter. Thanks for your interest in the game! At the minute we’re planning on allowing players to build portals and warps eventually through a process of using the very rare Oort Stones.

However, currently in the game we have placed a few static portals to allow players to travel in-game between worlds/servers.

Engineering is a very cool idea and something that I personally really enjoy in other sandbox games and mods. There are a lot of more basic features and building blocks for us to get to before we reach advanced crafting and engineering but with your help we’ll be able to get there.

Interesting. That could totally be one of the improved traits of the races. Or a very cool crafting item.

    Thanks Toukon!

We like the survival aspect of hunger too. Has to be balanced nicely without being too much of a chore.

Having a hunger system is an aspect of the game that we’re intending. How much of an impact hunger can have will depend on what you guys like.

Hi Grimoire. Ben (one of the other Wonderstruck Designers) and I were just debating bag and inventory design the other day.

We’re intending on letting you to craft bags in Oort Online. I like your concept of keeping the whole inventory/trading system in the in-game world. very interesting.

We want to hear more from all of you about crafting. Some people seem to like lots of detail and advanced systems and others much simpler mechanics.

I’m a details guy and love messing around with lots of different components and having some level of progression with crafting.

    What say you Oortians?

Cool ideas guys. There are already some pretty nice cave systems on some of the worlds. I believe that Dune world has some pretty extensive ones and that Fooks world doesn’t have any yet.

We want to have some ancient Oortian Temples and other structures dotted throughout the universe in the future. The Protectors and other surprises are likely to play a big role in their defence 😉

Hi guys, Love to hear more on your ideas for navigation. We’ve worked on some of the basic design for this but really want to hear what you want.

With these kinds of items it’s a toss up between usability and in-game ‘grounding’. With as much as possible in the game we want you to feel like everything is grounded in the game. So, if you want to be able to navigate better, we want to make that something that you can find the materials for and craft. However, we also want to make sure that once it’s crafted that it’s actually easy to use and navigate around the world with.

Keep thinking. It’s really helpful seeing all of these ideas.

Hi guys. We totally want you to have in-game chat for Oort Online and it’s in the plan. For the time being feel free to use the ga.me feed chat to the right of the window. It’s not ideal for everything but should help you keep in touch.

Thanks Darren. Feel free to contribute! That’s what the forums are for 🙂

I know what you’re saying about different attributes. It’s nice for there to be some gameplay impact of the differences. As soon as things get too complicated you end up with a balancing nightmare often with continuous nerfing of the overpowered race of the week.

    Keep up the ideas!

Thanks Bregma. I’ll have a chat with the team tomorrow and we’ll get something setup. Obviously, we don’t have every PC configuration available for us to test! 😉

So, you might see a new forum go up tomorrow for performance based issues. The more information we have on your system and the stats you are getting, the better we’ll be able to address any issues.

    Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Incus. Thanks for the interest. At the minute most of the textures you see in game are a first pass at some of the art. We expect to spend a lot more time and energy on them before they’re finished. However, here at Wonderstruck we really want the players to be involved in the creation of Oort Online.

So, if modding texture packs is something that lots of people want, then it’s definitely something we’ll consider. We have already talked about the prospect before but it’s still quite early days for the game.

Hi Alfa! Thanks for taking a look at the trailer and for the complements. We looked at smooth terrain for a long time before deciding on the current terrain generation. We wanted to add some deformation to the blocks to give the world a more natural feel.

But, we made a design decision early on not to go for a similar look to games like 7 Days to Die, Yogventures and Landmark. We just felt that one of the beautiful things about voxel games is that it gives everyone a good footing to create beautiful structures and a really simple world to understand. It’s kind of like the comparison between Lego and modelling clay. Most beginners can create something fun and good looking quite easily with Lego. But it takes a lot of skill and time to master the same skills with clay.

We’re still open to feedback and ideas on the terrain generation though and always like talking about the game. So, keep up the feedback!

Hi Daniel, thanks for the feedback. We should be able to make each glass block easier to see through in the short term.

Having them join together when placed next to one another is a little more complex but something that we definitely would like to do.
