I think that they should test this. Introduce a wide range text chat system that can be toggled off (maybe have a popup the first time you login after it’s added) if you would prefer to only use the existing local range one. They can then use the analytics, see how many people use it, and if they also maintain chat logs, see if it’s being misused and how much.
Testing various options is all part of the development process and if it’s not a popular feature, it can always be disabled later.
ArdosMemberThe only crashes I’ve had have been related to the nVidia issue which I believe is already known and happens with the 32-bit version as well.
ArdosMemberThe map shows up for me. I have had it go black a couple of times but changing the zoom level fixes it (at least for me).
ArdosMemberI think it updates quite quickly but the cache takes some time to update. You can try relogging on Gravatar. That might cause it to refresh.
ArdosMemberWelcome to the Oortiverse!
Let me try to answer your questions for you.
The Capitol Beacons: who may build within? A few worlds had items within, most had builds right at the edge of the beacons range. What determines who may build there?
People need to ask for permission to have access to the Capital Beacon. Email [email protected] with –
The world you want Capital access to
Your usernameBeacons in general: What requirements are needed to acquire/craft these? Saw a few “mediocre” builds within beacons, saw some great ones’ un-protected. IMO
Players can’t currently place them, we need to ask for a Beacon to be added. If you want one, you need to email [email protected] with –
The world your build is on
The center coordinates (press the “.” key a couple of times to get the coordinates to show up in the top left corner of the screen)
Your username (and those of anyone else who might be helping you)Player placeable Beacons are coming “Soon”.
Individual World “Home” point, when not player set: Is this spawn in point the same for all or is it individual? you know, that place where you enter the world and return too when you “Respawn at Home” after you find that ‘orange’ is lava and not a pretty new grass color.
It’s individual. Other players may be near by but the exact location is unique to yourself.
-Is there a way to know the number of claims/beacons on each world? as a general world population guide
Not that I’m aware of.
-Has anyone compiled a block name and look spreadsheet? Perhaps even a world on which they occur list to go with it?
Not that I’m aware of.
-Is there a way to view the Ping for each world at the same time? Currently it seems one needs to go to a world to get a ping. It would be beneficial to be able to see which world gives the best connection.
Before the game launched on Steam, they used to show this but it was removed. I could be wrong but it could be for testing purposes. People are more likely to spread out if they don’t immediately know which world has the lowest ping.
ArdosMemberNo, they’re somewhere within the userdata folder.
If you click on the “View screenshot library” button within the steam client and then “Show on disk”, it will open to the right place.
ArdosMemberHmm, I’m sure some of the block icons have changed as well. They look more defined.
Edit: Now compared my screenshots and yup, some have been updated.
ArdosMemberThey have said that there will be PvE worlds so you needn’t worry about aggressive PvPers if that isn’t your sort of thing. I will certainly be spending most, if not all of my time solely on PvE.
ArdosMemberLet me add to this :
1) Respawn – Perhaps have a small marked zone (blocks/sub Beacon?) that can only be entered by members of your team (see below). While in that area you can’t attack or be attacked. To combat people permanently staying in that zone, there should be some sort of penalty or you should auto be moved out of it after X seconds.
2) Teams – We have 4 entrances, so can potentially have 4 teams. Perhaps on each entrance we can have a way (block/sub Beacon) of assigning teams. There should of course be options for balancing team numbers.
3) Inventory – I didn’t take part in the PvP that happened on the old Dune server but I seem to recall talk of one of two options –
a) In Arenas you don’t drop your inventory
b) Your items are dropped as a single lootable item.
If b then there should be a way of setting a few protected items.4) Score – Definitely a nice thing to have at some point.
I think that’s it for now.
ArdosMemberYou’re more than welcome HoLyCoW. 🙂
December 30, 2014 at 7:44 pm in reply to: trade oort online steam for other steam with 3 games on #7222ArdosMemberBy the sound of it he wants to trade a Steam account and a League of Legends account for a Steam Oort key.
I can’t speak for LoL but trading Steam accounts is not allowed by their ToS and this sounds highly dodgy at best.
ArdosMemberIt does look absolutely fantastic so far. Can’t wait to see more of it.
There’s currently no way for a user to create their own Beacons (they are coming soon™).
In the meantime you can either post here, Tweet @Oortonline or email [email protected] with the world it is on, the coordinates (press “.” a couple of times to bring them up in the top left hand corner) and your username (or usernames if others are helping you) and they will add one for you. Note, you may need to wait until the new year when the right people are back in the office until you get one.
ArdosMemberArdosMemberI guess we’ll have to have some Wardens go around until the Elves get back from their break 😀
