I was wondering a bit about this too. I know about the beacons and how players can form together for towns and guilds, but what about those players that just like to cause trouble and ruin nice things? I was going to attach a screenshot of some minecraft grief mess, but googling it for yourselves should be easy enough. And many already know or have seen these things, thus the concern.
I had a thought of making blocks “repairable” or respawn themselves if some sort of griefing, something similar to a TNT mess on minecraft, were to happen. I know it is a stretch so maybe it wouldn’t work, but maybe this can spawn other ideas or thoughts on grief prevention. Obviously we all know the game is in very early development and briefing really isn’t an issue yet; however, better to be safe now than sorry later. This game is too beautiful to see it ruined by the wicked.
ApfelStreuselMemberTweekzor, Don’t you be hunting my beastie!
In all seriousness though, I’d love to see this game have some cool sea life. Many games don’t include enough. They make a river, a lake, an ocean, and then let it lie barren and empty for adventurers.
I feel like the water could also be a great place to farm and add a different variety from land. Maybe there could be some sort of clam creature that you could either tame and farm for pearls or have larger enemy versions that are underwater bosses of sorts and the valuable treasure they guard is actually inside of them. Also, sea cows ;D which could give you a special version of milk when tamed and farmed.
I love the other ideas thought of thus far also. Really hope water is an added area for fun, be it farming, exploration, or combat.
ApfelStreuselMemberI love this! I feel it would fit perfectly in to the game.
Auras for magical creatures and buffing attributes/skills for dungeons would be awesome. I could see dungeons causing an increased gravity to slow the player or a fog that would cause dizziness and disorientation. Maybe they could have a certain requirement, possibly a spell, to enter?
I also think magical weapons would be neat. Along with your sword idea I would like to suggest bows as well. Magic infused bows could use mana instead of physical crafted arrows; their arrows could be something like a light arrow, it doesn’t appear until the bow is drawn. I could also see these “magical weapons” doing a different type of damage than the regular version, not necessarily better but different causing debuffs.
Great idea Dasachi, I really think this should be considered for the game!
ApfelStreuselMemberAbsolutely! Those are some of my favorite anime and their worlds are amazing. I really hope Oort has diverse and expansive worlds like they do, that would be a dream come true. A lot of my suggestions actually spawn off of what those fictional worlds have and I think Oort could use similar features. I am definitely on board for this idea, let me know if you want to talk more about it when more stuff is released or even before then. We will probably run into each other soon enough in-game. My IGN is ApfelStreusel, I’m also Wayfarer, just hasn’t been updated yet. Awesome idea, can’t wait!
ApfelStreuselMemberI’m almost certain there won’t be any kind of micro transactions. I asked a similar question over a stream yesterday and they said it will most likely be in-game gold used to buy/rent things.
ApfelStreuselMemberI like this. Players shouldn’t be able to craft everything right at start, hunting for recipes will be fun. I find recipes in games to be a great feature, they are fun to collect and give a little challenge to the game. Can’t wait to see what things will be craft-able.
ApfelStreuselMemberAgreed. Aesthetics are what really makes a game for me. I like looking at stuff just as much as the next person, but having functional furniture and other items would be a great addition.
Adding to this; I don’t want to build something just to look at it and say, “Look what I made.” You can do that on Minecraft. I want it to have a purpose, some reason to want to go back to it and not just move on to the next piece of block art. Personally I think this would boost Oort Online above other voxel based games.
ApfelStreuselMemberI agree, this would be nice. I know warps have been mentioned alongside world portals, but I think mountable animals/creatures would be awesome as well. Lack of transportation in other games makes it a little less fun after awhile, especially if you have a long distance to travel.
ApfelStreuselMemberI absolutely love detailed crating in games as well. I like to have unique looking weapons that not everyone will have, something that I can claim as my own. I like games where you are actually able to influence the design of a weapon or tool, using materials to make it look a certain way or actually be able to draw out how you want it to look. I also think adding effects to weapons would be neat. Flaming swords and glowing staffs or maybe even causing status effects on enemies from using the weapon in battle (poison, burn, freezing, stun, etc.) I know these features would take some work to implement but I definitely think Oort Online would be perfect for something like this.
