    Additionally – if you think the draw distance is worse:

    1. Make sure you give the game enough time to finish loading all the chunks.

    2. There could be a bug which means that you’re not getting everything. Please share a screen shot and we can replicate the position and check.

    There weren’t any special secret options for the captured videos.

    Make sure you max “Draw Distance” to EPIC this gives you a draw distance of 1 km.

    Also make sure you max “Terrain Detail” – this pushes out the Level of Detail distance, meaning that you have higher quality for a longer distance.

    Also make sure that you’re looking at the same time of day, as the lighting changes dramatically depending on the sun location.

    We have tweaked, iterated and improved (??) the rendering since many of the videos clips were captured. It’s obviously possible we’ve made things worse – but we hope not!

    As you suggest – it’s possible that there is a bit of an optical illusion going on. When we capture the videos we’re often flying so the view height is different. It might be possible this accounts for the visual differences.

    The forums and game accounts are disconnected – ie. two different account systems.

    So we’ll need to do it manually at the moment.

    Hopefully in the future we can tie the two together.

    But if you bought the game on oortonline.com your forum title should be correct. If not email us.

    We do updates almost every day – these normally contain fixes, perf improvements, and little features. When they contain more significant features we will post more details in a news story.

    Yes that FAQ is a little miss leading.

    That is really referring to solution #2 – where we offer to host a world for you.

    Option #3 is not part of this – I’ll make sure it’s tidied up.

    Try starting the game. If it does start then a log file should be generated.

    1. Try starting the game from within Steam.
    2. Try starting the game directly.

    Send us both logs.

    Btw – the elves have reported that whilst it’s simple to enable it will also add significant extra load on our servers. (This is because instead of streaming the lower LODs which are smaller – we’ll instead be streaming the higher LODs which are much bigger.) This isn’t a problem per se. But we’re currently investigating some other latency issues and this would work against that until the latency was resolved.

    There are other ways around this – for example doing much more caching of chunks locally. But this would require a little more work to enable. (But it would also help with the latency issues!)

    So – it’s coming – but the priority might be a little lower – don’t expect it tonight. But keep an eye open for it in a future release.

    I’ve asked the Elves for some higher options and maybe even a “screenshot” option specifically for taking screenshots. Keep an eye out for this in the future.

    Ok – as I suspected.

    We can easily add more options to amp up the quality. As you say – if someone wants to take a screen shot they will not mind if the game is running at 5 fps (or lower!)

    Think so – we’ve been moving things into the GUI Options panel and off magic key presses.

    We’re working to get beacons in player’s hands not ours. Then you’ll be able to control them, give access to your friends, etc.
