Is it possible you have a firewall running? At the moment firewalls can block Oort Online’s access to the game servers. If so, try changing your firewall settings.

If not, can you be more precise about the issue, what is the exact message and at what stage is it triggered.

    That’s #3 – Independent Server.

You take a server software and run it yourself. Mod it. Control it. Craft it.

Yes – we’ll get all the worlds back ASAP. Shouldn’t be too long.

Account names are unique. They’ll not be wiped.

At the moment you play with your account name, however in the future I could imagine allowing players to name their characters (particularly if you’re able to have multiple characters across the different races.)

So the account name is you. But hopefully your characters name could be something different.

The game depends on the .Net framework – so we really need it installed. There is no way around this.

We’re planning to offer 3 levels:

    1. Official Oort Online MMO. These worlds make up the MMO that everyone can play in.

    2. Player Oort Online Worlds. Player created private (and semi private) worlds. We will host these for you and run the vanilla Oort Online game logic. You craft and sculpt the world. You control access. Your world. Your rules.

    3. Independent Servers. We provide the servers for players, modders and server hosts to deploy their own instance. You can mod these. Privately host them. (But they will obviously be disconnected from the main MMO.)

We’re playing with a few ideas:

    1. There will be different sized beacons. As you suggest, big for your main base, small for outposts, etc. Remember it’s a survival game. You’ll need homes away from home. Or you can cobble a few together to make the area big, etc.

    2. The world will regenerate in a consistent (deterministic) way, *but* the resources will be distributed differently – so there is no camping around good seams of minerals. This is still experimental.

    3. Items outside of beacons will degrade – this might make the move / non-move beacon issue mute. If you move your beacon then the landscape will degrade your base away.

These are considerations that we’re prototyping – they’re not final until the community and players show they work.

We’re really keen the get beacons v1 into the game ASAP after the Steam launch, especially as the number of players is growing.

Additional: If you watch how people move around the terrains with the grappling hook I think we’ll naturally see less pillars.

    Like / dislike? Thoughts?

I can connect to Omoson – just now.

Is it still failing for you?

Are you still having issues or are you in the game now?

Sorry – there is an issue with the world servers that locks players like this. We’ll get it fixed asap – hopefully today or tomorrow.

Once we take the server offline you should be able to restart and connect to a new world.

    Thanks for reporting the issue.

    To confirm:

Only Instant Access (Early Access) keys get the perks.

(It was originally only the buyer as @sorrow suggested – but we increased it based on backer feedback. Specifically parents buying for their kids – and wanting them to have the same perks. We thought this was fair and upgraded everyone.)

@havok40k has everything correct at the moment.

The range bonus *does* apply to all your beacons. This is specified in the tooltip – which no one ever notices.

We’re always open to feedback… so shout if you think something is wonky.

    @ardos basically covers it.

    1. Dev controlled portals and beacons will be in soon. We’ll link the worlds up.

    2. Player controlled portals and beacons will be later – mainly because we need to create a GUI that sits on top of the system already in place so that you can control them. But we totally agree that these are really important features.

    3. If you die in the game – you’re probably going to lose your backpack (unless you get back there quickly or a friend kindly recovers your stuff.) Without this there is very little drama or tension to exploration. Where is the risk?

    re. Beacons

There are beacons in the game. The problem is that we don’t have a gui for them yet. So you could place them but you can’t control them. We’ll get them out soon – especially now the # of people playing is increasing and people want to protect their creations.

    Thanks!

    What could possibly go wrong…

… maybe the lava starts flowing and? Whoopsie – no more house.

    (Lava will flow soon.)
