well yeah if the crafting system is based on exploration and experimenting then the idea of trying to un-craft an item to learn how it is made or to gain some of it’s base materials. say if you are a smith and you find an Iron axe and all you’ve learned to make is a sword or shovel then you could use a loot item iron axe and it may be able to try and take it apart and learn the recipe for it and get an ingots worth of iron. then it makes a good way to learn things and adds a luck element to the learning part and if you need it to not be too over powered then you can make it fail or make it unlock the information in pieces.
upsioMemberI like the idea of customization and as for character customization I do have a few questions that I would like both answer from the devs and our fellow Oortians on. and a few notes that I personally like might be nice. warning these might get a bit long winded
1) will there be a graphical difference we can make to our characters as we make them? EI will we get a character creator or just a few predefined presets on each race to choose from.
1- one of my favorite parts of playing a game (Esspecially an rpg or MMO) is the character creation I like being able to tinker and toy around with it (example would be final fantasy 14, or elder scrolls) I like being able to go into that deep detail even if it is not something that someone else is really going to zoom into my character to see I like knowing that I made a character I feel is unique enough to me.2) this one is something I’ve seen poked about on the forums a bit and I like the idea of making the craft-able weapons a bit more customizable by adding functional decorations or or just pure aesthetic aditions for that extra bit of flare. would it be possible to make it so say if you find a weapon like if it was a mob drop or a piece of loot in a temple then would that be a basic version that we can later craft and add upon? or maybe there can be a skill to TRY and disassemble it for a CHANCE to learn how to craft it? (example that when we unlock more difficult crafting potential that we unlock a personal crafting guide that keeps track of what we know how to make)
3) you said that there would be 6 races in the preview trailer is that in any means finalized or will there be additions and subtractions to it over time as we all ban together and influence the growth of the game?
4) I saw a few post before of people bringing up the idea of adding guns which made me think. will it all be hand held weapons and magic or with there be a chance of developing into technology for all those science fans who want to make machines and process ores into more yield and make sci-fi style gear and weapons? (lazer swords, blasters, regular guns, ect..)
4- I think since it is a sandbox style game then having the wide variety of things to build is great. I think having the normal handheld weapons of direct combat(swords, shields, spears, bows and arrows), having magical weapons and spells are great but maybe also having tech options. if they are early obtained then have them around similar strengths as the other weapons, or if you want a gun to be strong then make it late game tech. a good example would be to look at the various mods people have made for other games like skyrim, minecraft, ect…
5) this is something I was thinking on and is a quick question. will there be mod support? there are people who love to mod and add to their games so will people be able to mod the game and add to it. like stone hearth not the wow based card game let people have access to their own dev tools so they could personally add things into the game I haven’t seen much of them or even know what happened to that game but it was an amazing idea. it could be allowed for the private servers or in offline mode. you could also put a submission system so that you can approve the mods to be applicable and be added into certain worlds in the game.
that is all for my insane ideas for now I look forward to other peoples views and comments.
upsioMemberoh this sounds good I’m excited now….. well even more excited
upsioMemberI am a details kind of person myself I like the idea of crafting and forging tools and I also like the idea of using different components and materials and maybe getting to the the highest tier where a Player can craft their own special weapons and tools. it would be important to have different crafting processes for different things like if you are forging armor then having different tools and work piece furniture like you can craft in certain buffs if you have the right materials and tools. in some of them you might even add an optional minigame that can be turned on or off in the settings for the players that just love to craft.
upsioMemberwell I personally agree with about most of what you’ve summarized here and I think it would make for a good variety as for customizing the appearance I have a couple of ideas to add on. this one will get a bit long as well but I think these idea would make it even better.
1. I think you shouldn’t just be able to use dyes to change the colors I think it would be color if you could use a special item or tool with the dyes like a paint brush to may your own logos symbols and insignia’s or even a coat of arms style crest.
2. as for the enchantments and environmental buffs with appearance changes I think you should be able to stack the effects and have each level of those enchants further enhance the look with the buff having a limit of course like if I add spike to my armor then maybe if I do spike level 2 there is either more spikes or larger spikes and maybe combo some of the ones that can reasonably over lap like spikes and sharpness, or reinforced and sturdy.
3. I love the idea of different weapon types have those for combat and hunting so what about making tools with classes so you can have craftsmen roles for the less combat oriented players like a miners pick, or quarrying hammer, a loom, add other rolls besides combat and then it makes the idea of people coming together and building real villages of players much more likely. fishing rods and all sorts of things so that you can take the worlds and make an actual world out of it you can have miners and blacksmiths, clothing makers and merchants, fishermen, even food vendors, potion makers, librarians for mages and skill books that let you pick up new job types and teach you how to make the basic equipment to get started.
upsioMemberI think that is a good and valid point every other game has an instant re-spawn so even if you do a deal toll system where you loss some gold/currency for dying then at least maybe a brief cut scene of having to pay the fairy-man of the dead to cross the river and return to life. that or maybe a heredity system like if you die then it is your son/daughter who takes up the gear you left behind and continues your adventure I would love that kind of system as well.
upsioMemberI think adding stealth elements is a good idea because while it is less likely to run into other players it still gives those who are less prepared for a fight a chance to avoid getting massacred by a Player killer.
upsioMemberI would like to see a large variety of weapons but if the weapons are going to be mostly swords, spears shields and magic then I don’t really think having guns is really inappropriate contextually maybe some sore of alchemist or magical type guns might work but personal if there is one it should be a bit more late game as they can be very over powered when you are in a fight and the opponent has just a spear. even if it is just a bow and arrow versus a gun the gun is still too overpowered. I would love to see things like scythes and claws even things like throwing knives or shuriken(throwing stars) would still be nice.
upsioMemberI agree I think having the choice of having light and dark races would be good in a their could be certain pros and cons to them as well. if there are going to be npc villages at some point it could have a big impact on those interactions.
upsioMemberwell one of the things I was wondering about the races is that in a MMO you generally end up within a single race most of the time for the entire time as the character. so what about putting in something like an item/quest that allows you to change your race in the game or allowing a player to have multiple characters of different races.
Also if I had to say anything about adding in a race I would love to see a snake and a spider race. after all some people like to play as darker character styles and maybe it’d be good to have some races that might suit those type of players as well. after all if you are going to add a reptile race and insect race then those might be viable option for those races. as for race skills their might be certain benefits added in to what aesthetics you choose for your character. for example if you have a reptile race you can have traits like wall walker, water breather, swift swimmer and other such applicable traits like wall walker can be a reduction to fall damage if you fall from a height against a wall(the longer you are against the wall the slightly better the reduction) and you get it my picking something like more gecko like hands and get a swift swimmer by using a snake tail for your lower half making you slightly faster in water but maybe add a tiny bit to your hit box because of the added length by a snake tail. maybe make certain aesthetic choices in each race influence some of the traits or perks.
upsioMemberI think the idea of using saplings is a good idea because when people build sometimes they want some controlled foliage in their area and if you make a sapling drop then that means if you live in a yellow world you could bring back red and orange tress from another world to spice up your home. after all you did have the talk about bringing colored grass from other worlds so why be able to bring over the different plants as well? but I do think that auto regrow outsides beacons will be needed because there will be the people who carelessly clear out a forest and do not replant and then that will cause a problem as when they need to gather wood they will go to another world and do the same.
